I wasn't looking forward to this show nearly as much as I had for the season premiere. I felt that it would be just about the same as last year's Heather Graham episode...not all that funny. I didn't even know who Radiohead was before the show, but I learned shortly after...heh, you can read below to see my opinion on THEM. Jesus...
[COLD OPENING] Second Presidential Debate
When I saw this would be another debate, I was ready for a barrel full of laughs, but I was sadly disappointed. I'm not saying this was a bad opening, just not as funny as the season premiere's. I loved Bush trying to say all those Nigerian names...haha!
RATING : 6.5/10
[MONOLOGUE] Kate Hudson
I didn't really like this at all. I would have given it a really bad rating if it wasn't for Kate Hudson getting almost naked at the end...
RATING : 5/10
[SKETCH] Hot Girls Gone Wild
This was pretty funny. Will Ferrell was great as the disappointed father. I was surprised to see the mother at the end of the sketch too...Good, clean (well maybe not clean), old fashioned comedy.
RATING : 7/10
[CARTOON] X-Presidents
I don't really like any of these cartoons unless it's the Ambiguously Gay Duo. Reagan's gay son was funny though.
RATING : 6.5/10
[SKETCH] Inside The Actor's Studio
This was hilarious! Will always cracks me up with his James Lipton impression. Kate Hudson also played a DEAD ON Drew Barrymore. I laughed my ass off when Will Ferrell fell backwards on his chair from laughing. Good work, SNL!
RATING : 8.5/10
[SKETCH] Sully and Denise
I never liked these 'Boston Teens' sketches, but this one was OK. I think the best part of these sketches is Horatio Sanz's character, that guy with the really long hair. AWESOME! haha... It was good to see Nomar actually make an appearance...Fallon's reaction was priceless.
RATING : 7/10
[MUSIC] Radiohead performs "The National Anthem"
I made sure to see this. I was wondering what all the hype was about these guys. I HAD to turn it off after one minute...I couldn't take it any longer. I wouldn't even classify this as music. 30 seconds in, I thought the lead singer was having some sort of seizure due to the flashing lights. However, people seemed to like them! Good thing I don't take into account the musical guest when I write the final mark of the episode. This would get a big, fat ZERO.
[WEEKEND UPDATE] With Jimmy Fallon & Tina Fey
I was hoping the Weekend Update would help the show's poor start. Boy, did this satisfy! This was HILARIOUS! Bill Clinton's appearance really helped this out. And, he had a valid point. The candidates suck! Great job, writers, keep up the great work!
RATING : 9/10
[SKETCH] Woodrow Meets Kate
I thought this would be a one time sketch for the Britney Spears episode. I think SNL made a grave mistake to bring him back. This sketch wasn't funny the first time, and it's not funny now.
RATING : 2/10
[SKETCH] Meet The Press
Fallon's Rick Lazio was the best part of this sketch! I was laughing very hard when he kept spilling his drink all over himself with giggling. And the part about Hillary's ass was hilarious!
RATING : 7/10
[SKETCH] Rabun to Shuri
This was ridiculously homosexual. It seems SNL is really needing to put a sketch that's not funny into the show. They're gonna have to stop this soon...
RATING : 0.5/10
[MUSIC] Radiohead Performs "Idioteque"
...and when you think it couldn't get ANY worse, these guys come back out. Just SWELL. This time, the lead singer was so stoned that he couldn't even keep his eyes open. Was he singing in English? All I heard was a fair amount of grunting and moaning. Wow....what a cool song. *cough, cough*
[SKETCH] The More You Know...
This wasn't that great. But, what more can you expect when it's just crammed into the end of the show. It was good to see Jerry Minor making an appearance.
RATING : 4.5/10
Sketch of the night : Inside The Actor's Studio
Quote of the night : Will Ferrell as George W. Bush "Uh, Jim? I've got some more Nigerian names for ya!"
OVERALL EPISODE RATING : 58/100
I didn't expect much, and I didn't get much. The musical guest was awful, but the Weekend Update was awesome! I think that we're pretty much guaranteed to see Dana Carvey's George Bush impression next week, and hopefully (just maybe) a return of the Church Lady? Well, maybe I'm asking for too much. Either way, next episode should be great!
